The presence of anti-dsDNA antibodies in the blood is a specific marker for SLE and can be used to confirm the diagnosis. The test is also used to monitor the disease's activity and response to treatment. Elevated levels of anti-dsDNA antibodies can indicate active disease, while decreasing levels can indicate a response to treatment.
