Book a Test- Direct Coombs Test (DCT)

The Direct Coombs Test (DCT) is a medical test used to detect the presence of antibodies or complement proteins attached to the surface of red blood cells. The test is also known as the Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT). It is typically performed to diagnose autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA), a condition in which the immune system produces antibodies that attack and destroy the body's own red blood cells. During the test, a sample of blood is mixed with antihuman globulin (AHG), a substance that reacts with antibodies or complement proteins attached to the red blood cells. If the AHG reacts with the antibodies or complement proteins, it indicates that the red blood cells have been marked for destruction by the immune system. The DCT is a sensitive and specific test that can help diagnose AIHA and other conditions characterized by the premature destruction of red blood cells.
