Serum Beta-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (Beta-HCG) is a blood test used to measure the levels of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in the blood. Beta-HCG is a specific type of HCG that is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. The test is commonly used to confirm pregnancy, monitor fetal development, and diagnose certain conditions related to pregnancy. During pregnancy, Beta-HCG levels typically rise rapidly, doubling every 48-72 hours. Abnormal levels of Beta-HCG can indicate potential problems with the pregnancy, such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or chromosomal abnormalities.
